INTERNATIONAL RACE OF CHAMPIONS

The International Race of Champions IROC began in 1973 and takes 12 of the world's top drivers from different forms of motorsports,  and lets them race identically prepared cars. Terry has competed in the IROC series on 8 occasions, winning the championship in 1989. He also drove in the final event in 1993 in place of the late Davey Allison. His sixth place finish in that race clinched the 1993 IROC championship for Davey. Not without controversy, though, as Terry almost quit the series in 1996, following a serious dispute.

1985 CHEVROLET CAMARO Z28

The above is a picture of the racecar that Terry drove in his first IROC race.  He raced this in the season opener at Daytona in 1985.

The above picture is one that Terry was supposed to race in 1985 at Talladega.  However, the race was canceled due to rain.  In other words, the 1985 season was shortened to only 3 races instead of the usual 4.

In 1996, Terry reportedly nearly left the series after a serious dispute following the first race in Daytona that season.

 2001 PONTIAC FIREBIRD CHAMPION'S TRIBUTE TEST CAR

 In 2001, to celebrate their 25th anniversary, all dedicated test cars thru the season were painted to pay tribute to all of the series' past champions. They paid tribute to Terry's 1989 championship during the Talladega race weekend with the paint scheme above!
